Some Kids Never Grow Up...

... and that's good.

For the last year all my daughter has talked about is wanting a big party for her birthday with all her friends and family, and a Jolly Jumper. A BIG jumper, and it had to be a princess castle.

This is for her 18th birthday... mind you, not her 3rd.

I made sure the jumper people knew it would be used by teenagers. The rental agreement said "no more than 2 teenagers at a time"..... ooops

It also said "must be supervised" Does this look like I'm supervising? (BTW, I'm wearing my Eiffel!)

Other rules we "broke" - hmmmm, no flips, no mixing of age groups - at one point my 50-year-old husband, a bunch of teenagers, and a 5-year-old were all in there playing a mean game of dodge ball. Hey - at least I didn't them bring in food or drinks, or pointy objects (I considered trying to get a picture of my jumping with my knitting for you... but figured the "pointy objects" rule probably ought to be one we obey).
The only one who got hurt the whole day was my BIL, and he wasn't even in the jumper at the time. He fell off the Bongo Board.

I tell ya - renting that jumper was worth every cent. Add in hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream cake, and a couple of 3' speakers hooked up in the backyard for party tunes, and ya got yourself a pretty great 18th Birthday Party. I highly recommend it for any age.
There was a little knitting, when I wasn't in the jumper or eating.... can anyone guess what this will be? Big hint - I'm probably the LAST knitter on earth to make one of these. I'm not telling. It'll be evident soon enough, and you can probably tell already by the subtleties in the knit pattern.

Party on, my friends.

Thank goodness there are still teenaged kids who want to be silly and have fun like we did. I don't think I ever had a beer till Cal Poly!

And you're making a clap, aren't you? I haven't take the plunge yet, but I'm tempted! (That is a clap..no?)

You are a good mother. What a fun party!

And I agree with the others... Clapotis? I would actually like to make another since I'm not crazy about the colors in my first and it's a great wrap.

But, correct me if I'm wrong... doesn't this make *3* projects on your single project needles right now?

It must be Clapotis, and you're not the last 'cause I'd like to make one and haven't yet. :-) Can I come to your next party?

Of course it's a Clapotis. I haven't yet to make one either, as I frogged the ancient beginnings of mine awhile ago.
Happy Birthday to your girlie, as well!

Wow, Happy Birthday...wasn't she just 7 wearing a dress that matched her american girl doll?

Not being in the knitting loop I don't know what a clap is, but I always thought it was something you really did'nt want to get.

I think a princess jumper for a three year old is ridiculous (as I keep telling my soon to be three year old). I think a princess jumper for an 18 year old is genuis! How fun and she'll remember it forever.

And I spy with my little eye something knit that will have dropped stitches....

Jumpers are wonderful at any age. We got one for my daughter's sweet 16 blowout bash and it was the biggest hit!! Happy birthday to your daughter! Are you knitting a Clapotis???? If are, you're not the last....I'm hoping to make one for a cruise in June!

Yippee! It's a Clapoteeeee!! hehe and I haven't made one yet so you're not the last! :)

Super fun to have the jumper for her 18th birthday - she's not too serious about growing up yet! WHEW! I think I need to get jumpers for my kids birthdays EVERY year once they turn 16. hehe

Well if it's the clap know your not the absolute last knitter to make it. I just started mine about a week ago as well.
I like the colors your using what yarn is that?

That was so thoughtful of you to inspect the jumper for your guests! Happy birthday to your sweet girl.

hahaha! the jumper is great! i think we all need to go back to simpler times and remember what it was like to be a kid!

That's hilarious!! It's a great idea, they grow up too fast anyway. I'm wishing I could have jumped too!
I agree with the others about the Clapotis. I have yet to knit one either. Love the yarn too.

I just blocked a clapotis for my girlfriend. Is it really one?

At 8:46 AM, Blogger kbrow said...

oooh, it's clapotis! such pretty yarn, too. You'll make another, and another, and another, everytime you stumble on 600 or so yards of yarn you just can't bear not to fondle for a few weeks, you'll start one.
