Apparently, I'm "Out Of It" - again

I've never shopped for prom dresses before. I didn't go to my prom. I didn't go to ONE school dance. I barely had a date in high school. So, I missed out on the whole prom dress shopping thing 'til now.

This month I've done LOTS of prom dress shopping. It's actually kind of fun, for the first few hours. You get to know the other moms and their daughters pretty well - hanging out in the dressing room.

You start giving opinions on total stranger's daughter's dresses. You wish you had an excuse to wear a total princess dress. You wish you still had your total princess body so you could wear a sparkly poofy killer princess dress. You daughters highly doubt you ever had a total princess body.

What do they know.

Now, back in the day, when I didn't go to prom, it was because I didn't have a boyfriend, and if I wanted to go from "not one of the popular kids" to extreme loser status, going to the prom stag or with your girlfriends would have clinched it. Kiss of death.

But, nowadays I guess "everyone does it", so D#2, Lil, is also going to the prom, with her best friend, stag. Well, if "everyone" is doing it....

I'm so out of touch, I'm sure they don't even say "stag" anymore...

Oh well. Lil is happy, has a very princessey prom dress, and some KILLER shoes. K-I-L-L-E-R.

Those Lorna's Laces Black Purl socks up there.... I'll model them for you in the killer princess shoes. Wait for it.... seriously killer shoes.

I didn't even realize it was prom until I went to the mall last week and saw all the dresses! I hope she has a good time, and doesn't kill her feet with her killer shoes.

Prom time? Already? It is SO time for it to be warm here. I didn't go to my prom, either. And I'm not sure "killer shoes" will ever be seen on my feet again. Princess dresses, though. I've always wanted one of those.

Killer shoes. See, that's the one thing that you never have to worry about when you lose the "princess" body. You can always wear the killer shoes! Doesn't even really matter what you were with them either. I was practically the "belle of the ball" at a black tie event in February - just because of the killer shoes!! Jewelry for the feet, gold chains with pink, red and yellow faux gems.K.I.L.L.E.R.and comfortable - the best part!!
I envy your prom shopping. Didn't do any of that with 4 boys. Late bloomers. Not promgoers.
Love the LL blackpurl - I want to do a whole ensemble(said with French accent) in that colorway.

Marsha - I've already warned her I'm borrowing the shoes! And the pattern is a variation of "Lovely Lace Socks" in the latest IK Knits.

the princess dress thing is over-rated. i did it for senior prom...and now i have a princess dress hanging in my closet. i'm considering it for my wedding dress...hopefully it will still fit.
i don't remember my dates or my proms. i did it mostly to get my hair and makeup "did" and to take pictures with my friends. and even the pictures were just for barter to get pictures of other people that i didn't really care about...i think i threw away all those pictures already. *sigh*
dancing in those huge dresses was a pain. i would've sooner gone in jeans and a t-shirt. i never wore shoes when i was dancing. i never wore them outside of prom...what a waste of money.
eh...i'm so anti-prom. i think i'm just jealous because i don't have an annual reason or three to get dressed up like that anymore. i'm too old to go, too. you have to be under 21 to get to go as a date nowadays...

My son is a freshman and can't go to prom because he'd have to go with a junior or senior. I have years and years to prepare for girlfriend's prom. I didn't go to mine. The boy I was going to go with died February of our senior year (leukemia). I was asked by a friend to go but my mother wouldn't let me (a long story that involves color). I remember driving past the place where prom was.

Oh how I love sparkly princess dresses. I'm so girly like that. Some day we'll all get together and have a sparkly princess knitters ball!!! Can't wait to see those killer shoes.

I didn't go to the prom either. It's true, I think, that things that are THE MOST IMPORTANT THING when you are in high school, seem to be so unimportant, even anti-important, when you have a few more years under your belt. Amylovie and I have had much more significant "princess" times when we had season tickets to the Dallas Ballet, and spent several terrific girls' weekends out together. We got very dressed up, went to the finest restaurant we could find, and had thoroughly fabulous times together. We are going to market together in June. I can hardly wait.

Hey! we had princess dresses!!...if you count Jessica Whatzername dresses!! (and...um, well, gee..we had fun anyway, even without proms...)

I still miss my best killer shoes from college. They had awesome "toe cleavage".

Memories like those make the mundane "Mom Days" bearable.

High school boyfriends are so much less fun than best friends - way to go for D#2!

Oh, I had gorgeous shoes for prom. They were excruciatingly uncomfortable, but I kept them for years. The dress and the date were a bust, but the shoes rocked.

So you have the same shoe size as your daughter! My daughter and I do too. I think it so much fun shopping together and wearing each others things. Keeps us young mamas! I have some Lornas and can't wait to try that yarn out. I hear people rave about it.

I think it's great that going to the prom with your friends is acceptable now! The way it should be.

Oh man...I loved my prom dress. And I looked HOT too. :o) Of course--there was that high school body thing going on...the one I thought was fat...?? What is our problem anyway? And who cares if you are fat? HA!

Those socks are going to be gorgeous!!! I am really digging that colourway!!!!!!

Yeah, I went to the prom. A bunch of us went stag too...no boyfriends. We had fun though. We weren't popular, and we weren't total losers for going stag...at least no one said it to our faces if we were LOL.
